Ford Truck Maintenance Schedule (General Guide)

Keeping up with routine maintenance is the key to getting long life, strong performance, and maximum resale value from your Ford truck. Whether you drive a gas-powered model like the Ford F-150, a heavy-duty Ford F-250, or a larger Ford F-350, this general maintenance schedule will help you stay on track.

 Ford Truck Maintenance Schedule (General Guide)

⚠️ Always check your owner’s manual for exact intervals based on engine type (gas vs. Power Stroke diesel), model year, and driving conditions.

Every 5,000–7,500 Miles (or 6 Months)

  • Change engine oil and oil filter
  • Rotate tires
  • Inspect brakes (pads, rotors, calipers)
  • Check fluid levels (coolant, brake fluid, transmission, power steering)
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Reset maintenance reminder if equipped

If you tow frequently or drive in extreme heat (like Arizona summers), consider shorter oil change intervals.

Every 15,000–20,000 Miles

  • Replace engine air filter
  • Replace cabin air filter (if equipped)
  • Inspect suspension components
  • Inspect exhaust system
  • Check battery and clean terminals

Dusty or off-road conditions may require more frequent air filter replacement.

Every 30,000 Miles

  • Inspect and possibly replace fuel filter (especially diesel models)
  • Inspect transfer case fluid (4WD models)
  • Inspect front and rear differential fluid
  • Check alignment

Heavy-duty trucks used for towing may require more frequent differential service.

Every 60,000 Miles

  • Replace spark plugs (gas engines may vary)
  • Replace transmission fluid and filter (if serviceable)
  • Replace transfer case fluid
  • Flush brake fluid (recommended)

For diesel trucks, fuel filter replacement is often required sooner and more frequently.

Every 100,000 Miles

  • Replace coolant (engine antifreeze)
  • Replace serpentine belt
  • Inspect water pump
  • Inspect timing components (if applicable)

Modern Ford trucks often use long-life coolant, but replacement is still required around this mileage.

Severe Duty Maintenance (Towing / Heavy Use)

If your truck regularly:

  • Tows trailers
  • Carries heavy payloads
  • Operates in extreme heat or cold
  • Drives off-road
  • Idles for extended periods

Then follow the “Severe Duty” schedule in your manual. This typically means:

  • Shorter oil change intervals
  • More frequent transmission and differential fluid service
  • Earlier brake replacement

Diesel vs. Gas Maintenance Differences

Diesel (Power Stroke) models:

  • More frequent fuel filter changes
  • DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) system monitoring
  • Higher oil capacity and cost
  • Turbo system inspections

Gas models:

  • Spark plug replacement required
  • Throttle body cleaning may be needed over time
